WHAT IS JEUVEAU?
Jeuveau is a wrinkle-relaxing injectable used to soften lines caused by repeated facial movements — like frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows. These are called dynamic wrinkles, and they tend to form between the brows, across the forehead, and around the eyes. Jeuveau works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for these movements, helping the skin appear smoother, more even, and less creased.
Like Botox, Jeuveau is made from botulinum toxin type A, but it was developed specifically for cosmetic use. HOW IS JEUVEAU ADMINISTERED?
Jeuveau is injected directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. The procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes and involves a series of small injections using a very fine needle. We start by mapping out your treatment plan based on your goals and facial anatomy. The number of units and injection sites will depend on your muscle strength, facial movement patterns, and the area being treated.
Discomfort is typically minimal. Most patients describe the feeling as a quick pinch or tiny pressure point. There is no need for anesthesia, though a topical numbing agent or ice may be offered if requested.
HOW LONG DOES JEUVEAU LAST?
Most patients find that Jeuveau lasts around 3 to 4 months. Some experience slightly shorter or longer results depending on muscle strength, metabolism, and consistency of treatments.
For best results, we recommend coming in every 3 to 4 months to maintain a smooth, relaxed appearance. Consistent treatment can also retrain facial muscles over time. Instead of automatically frowning or squinting, your muscles start to remain in a more relaxed state, helping to prevent lines from forming or deepening.
WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS FROM JEUVEAU?
Initial results can appear as early as 2 to 3 days after treatment, with full effects typically visible around 7 to 10 days. You’ll notice that treated areas look smoother and more relaxed, but not stiff or frozen. The skin will appear softer, and deep lines will become less visible.
Patients often comment that they look more rested or less tense — without anyone being able to tell exactly what’s changed.
WHAT PREPARATION IS NEEDED FOR JEUVEAU?
To reduce the risk of bruising or swelling, we recommend the following precautions 7 to 10 days before treatment:
- Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, aspirin, Aleve, or Advil
- Pause supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, or St. John’s Wort
- Limit alcohol 24 hours before your appointment
- Let us know if you have a history of cold sores so we can advise accordingly
If you’re taking aspirin or other medications for medical reasons, continue use unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
WHAT CAN I ANTICIPATE AFTER TREATMENT?
There is very little downtime after Jeuveau. You may have slight redness, swelling, or small bumps at the injection sites, which usually go away within an hour. Bruising is possible but not common.
To ensure optimal results:
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment
- Don’t rub or massage the treated areas
- Remain upright and avoid lying flat for at least 4 hours
Makeup can be applied 15 minutes after treatment if needed. If you experience any mild tenderness or aching, over-the-counter Tylenol is usually sufficient. We also provide post-care instructions to make sure you’re fully informed and comfortable.
DOES JEUVEAU HURT?
The injections are quick and relatively painless. You may feel a small pinch or pressure at each injection point, but discomfort is minimal and brief. Most patients do not require numbing cream or ice, though we’re happy to provide it if preferred.
Any soreness after the procedure is mild and short-lived. You can return to normal activities right away.
IS JEUVEAU SAFE?
Yes, Jeuveau is considered very safe when administered by a qualified medical professional. It was approved by the FDA in 2019 for cosmetic use and has been used in thousands of treatments across the country.
Side effects are generally mild and may include temporary redness, tenderness, or minor bruising. Rarely, some patients may experience a temporary drooping of the eyelid (ptosis), which typically resolves on its own.
JEUVEAU CONTRAINDICATIONS
Jeuveau should not be used if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a history of allergic reactions to botulinum toxin
- Have a neuromuscular disorder such as ALS or myasthenia gravis
- Have an active skin infection at the treatment site
