PDO Thread Lifts at Injector 5280, Denver
Forget what you heard about the old “thread lifting” procedures of the past, which utilized non-absorbable, permanent threads.
The new, PDO threads are here!
PDO threads are redefining what it means to be lifted, non-surgically! Our Denver office specializes in PDO thread treatments and will tailor your individualized thread treatment plan.
Until now, the only option to lift and tighten the skin involved a surgical procedure that required lengthy downtime and a hefty price tag. Now, PDO threads are available and FDA-approved as “collagen stimulators” to create volume, tighten and lift the face and body with no cuts or incisions, just injections.
PDO threads were used exclusively for surgical suturing, and after years of perfecting, are now one of the most common skin lifting procedures utilized on the face and body.
Facial PDO threads are a revolutionary non-surgical option to help lift the mid-face and sagging jowls, raise low brows, improve crepey and wrinkling skin on the face and neck, and increase volume to the cheeks and lips. For the body, threads can be used in multiple areas to lift sagging skin and stimulate collagen production, therefore, creating increased volume.
PDO thread procedures can be done in as little as 45 minutes, create little to no downtime and last for up to 1 year.
What are PDO Threads?
PDO threads are made of Polydioxanone which is a medical-grade protein. Threads are thinner than a strand of hair and have been used surgically for decades as absorbable sutures. PDO threads are preloaded into a needle or cannula and injected into the deeper layers of the skin. Once injected under the skin, these threads produce 3 effects:
- Cellular renewal through collagen stimulation which improves skin elasticity, texture, and fine lines. Also, several thread techniques and specialty threads can help increase volume in the face and body.
- Skin lifting through mechanical effects of specific threads.
- Skin tightening by contracting fat tissue.

8 Frequently asked Questions about PDO Thread Lifts
1. How Long do PDO Threads Last?
PDO threads typically last 6 months before dissolving. However, changes continue for up to a year due to increased collagen production and skin microcirculation. PDO threads also stimulate the production of elastin and hyaluronic acid; both substances are key to maintaining firm, youthful-looking skin. The threads will be reabsorbed by the body through a natural process called hydrolysis.
2. What Types of PDO Threads do you Offer?
There are many different types of PDO threads. We will guide you to what will give you the best outcome. Broadly, PDO threads can be divided into three types: Mono threads, Cog threads, and screw threads.
1. Mono “smooth” threads: are a single filament smooth thread without bards. These threads are typically inserted in a mesh like pattern to help tighten the skin. Once placed under the skin these collagen-stimulating threads activate collagen synthesis which helps rejuvenate and tighten the skin. These threads work best to treat neck lines and sagginess, facial fine lines, and to add strategic volume to the face. Mono threads can also be utilized anywhere on the body that has a creepy or loose appearance. If you are looking for a treatment plan to address both tightening and lifting, mono threads can be combined with cog threads.
2. Cog “barbed” threads: Cog threads contain small bards that attach to the underside of the skin. These barded threads are used to help mechanically lift sagging skin. These PDO threads also cause collagen production which provides for a lifted, smooth result that lasts. Cog threads are typically used to lift the mid-face, jowls, neck, and eyebrows and define the jawline. Barbed threads can also be used on the body where the skin has become loose or sagging.
3. Screw or Twisted Threads: Screw threads give areas of the face and body more volume and lift. Screw threads are available with one or two threads that are intertwined around the inserting needle to amplify results. Screw threads help to volumize sunken areas and give the face and body a youthful appearance. Twisted threads are mainly utilized for adding volume to the lips and reducing the appearance of cellulite and dimpling on the body.
3. Which areas can be treated with PDO Threads?
At our office, the most popular treatment areas are the brows, cheeks (midface), jowls, neck and buttocks. However, PDO threads can be performed almost anywhere on the body, such as to lift loose skin on the upper arms, abdomen, thighs, and around the knees.

4. What Preparation is needed before a PDO Thread procedure?
Since PDO thread procedures are non-invasive there isn’t much preparation needed. However, for the best results there are a few things to do in advance::
- If treating the face, get any important dental work done prior to your treatment or wait at least two weeks after your treatment. Any prolonged opening of the mouth can cause discomfort or displacement of the threads.
- Avoid blood-clotting medications approximately two days before your treatment such as Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Excedrin, Ginko, Omega Fish oil and Vitamin E to name a few.
- Avoid alcohol the night before your treatment.
- The morning of your treatment please refrain from working out and using steam rooms and saunas.
5. How are PDO Threads administered?
The entire procedure from start to finish, depending on the area being treated, takes 30-60 minutes.
- The first step is properly prepping and disinfecting the area(s) being treated.
- For your comfort the area(s) being treated will be numbed with a topical anesthetic as well as a small injection of local anesthetic.
- While your skin is numbing the area(s) being treated are marked according to our specific treatment plan.
- Once fully numbed The PDO threads are inserted into the appropriate layer of the skin via blunt-tip needles, cannulas, or sharp-tipped needles. Once inserted the threads act as anchors as the skin is lifted upwards. There are no cuts or incisions, just injections.
- With the lift or desired effect secured, the needle or cannula is removed without leaving any scars behind.
- Depending on the desired outcome, a few to several sutures will be placed.
These threads remain implanted in the skin causing micro-injuries that stimulate collagen synthesis and tissue contraction. After six months, the threads will be absorbed into the body leaving new collagen in their place.
6. What can I anticipate after treatment?
- You will see a noticeable improvement in the appearance of the skin immediately following the treatment. However, over the subsequent weeks, results will continue to improve, peaking at 6 months and lasting for up to 1 year as your body creates its own collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
- You can expect some minor swelling and occasionally bruising. If your bruising is visible topical arnica can be applied until the bruising subsides.
- Irregularities or asymmetries of the tissue is common and will typically resolve in 1-2 weeks.
- At the thread insertion sights you can have some pain that may last a couple of days. Also, minor burning or stinging pain is normal after barded threads are placed and should only last 24-48 hours.
7. What should I avoid after treatment?
- Excessive movement or animation of the area injected for 2 weeks. Avoid chewing gum for 2 weeks.
- Facial creams and makeup for 48 hours post-treatment.
- Massage of the treated area for 2 weeks.
- Aesthetic treatments should be avoided for 4 weeks (RF, Laser, IPL, Microneedling).
- After a face thread treatment avoid strenuous exercise for 1 week and for body thread treatments 2 weeks.
- Sauna, steam rooms, pools, and hot tubs that could be unclean avoid for 2 weeks.
- Refrain from washing and touching your face or the treated area for at least 12 hours after your procedure.
- Avoid taking anti-inflammatories for 2 weeks. However, Tylenol can be taken for any discomfort. Those taking prescribed anticoagulants such as aspirin/warfarin must continue to do so but must be aware that bruising is more likely.
8. When can I expect to see results after a Thread Lift
Most patients will notice immediate improvement following treatment. However, optimal results begin about 4-6 weeks post-procedure. As the treated areas heal over 6 months, new collagen forms acting as scaffolding for the skin and a more noticeable improvement will be noticed for up to 1 year. PDO thread lift results are temporary and it is necessary to receive annual ‘booster’ maintenance treatments every 12 months.
